A Little Word

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

God reminded me in preparation of today's feast day of the conversion of St Paul to also use my God-given name that I accepted, when I gave my vows as the Mother Superior of the Order of the Holy Rose, which is Eliora Anat, from Hebrew: God is my light to sing, and this is my name in the order, under which many of you have known me, who met me at a point, where you found me through my work for God.

I think it is a wonderful gift of God to let us give witness through our names to our relationship to God and to be able to live and exclaim, like once St Agnes: 'Christianan sum.' I am a Christian!

We receive our Chrisitan names at our baptism and we often also connect our confirmation with other holy souls, who have devoted their lives to God and to Jesus' one holy Catholic and apostolic church to God's glory, by taking their name in order to amplify holiness. At my confirmation I took the names Teresa Cecilia.

When God called me to serve Him through the Order of the Holy Rose He gave me the names above, and many of you have always called me by it and brought it to life by shining each of you and sometimes struggling to get it all right and to stay firm in your faith, hope and trust in God.

I pray that I can always shine in God's Infinite light as He wants me to and where He needs me to. Today is a day of great darkness outside, so I will go out, and see, whether I can bring a smile into somebody's face and make their day a bit lighter for them.

Remember, whenever you fill in a form or are asked for your name, say with all your dignity and joy: "My Christian name is ....'

I give thanks to God and I bless the Lord for all that He bestows upon us to shine in His Infinite Light. What is in a name? All that God expects of us and offers us - when Jesus was identified as the Messiah, He became Iesous Christos, Jesus Christ, Jesus the Anointed one.

And it is the anointing of the oil of baptism and the confirmation through a long line of apostolic shepherds that makes us all 'oily ones', the followers of Christ. May we always live up to and be worthy of our anointing and shine in word, thought and deed.

God bless you!

Mother Eliora
